At a massive artificial water reservoir in Yohmor, a small village in Lebanon, a shocking discovery stopped people in their tracks. At the bottom of the deep, concrete-lined pit stood two animals: a dog and a fox. The walls were steep and slick with black plastic lining. There was no way out. Beneath them lay icy standing water and scattered debris. In that frozen silence, two natural enemies were huddled together, trembling, simply trying to survive another hour.

Punished for Protecting What He Couldn’t Save
Local residents later revealed the cruel truth. The dog belonged to a nearby farmer. When the fox slipped in to steal chickens, the dog failed to stop it. Enraged, the owner dragged both animals to the reservoir and threw them in as punishment. No rope. No ladder. No chance. What was meant to be discipline became a slow death sentence.
When Time Was Running Out
Some villagers had noticed the trapped animals the day before and tried to help, but the pit was too deep and dangerous. As night fell, the cold worsened. By the time rescuer Houssein saw a desperate post online, there was no time to waste. He drove four hours through the night, knowing that both animals were already exhausted and that waiting any longer could mean losing them forever.

This was the moment everything could still go wrong.
A Descent Into the Cold
Secured by ropes, Houssein was lowered into the pit with a rescue cage and control pole. He reached the fox first. Though frightened, the animal did not fight fiercely, as if it understood this was its only chance. Carefully, Houssein guided it into the cage and signaled for it to be lifted to safety. Then he turned to the dog. Soaked, shaking, and dangerously thin, the dog stood still as the loop was placed gently around his neck. As he was lifted along the slippery wall, he cooperated completely, trusting the hands that came for him.
Warmth After the Darkness
Both animals were brought into shelter and warmth. Food was offered. The dog, later named Basin Fighter, ate hungrily, his body finally allowed to rest. The fox remained too frightened to eat at first, but it was safe. For the first time since being thrown into the pit, neither animal had to brace for another freezing night.

Two Lives, Two New Paths
After a week of care and veterinary checks, the fox regained strength and was released back into the wild, returning to the rocky mountains where it belonged. Basin Fighter’s story took a different turn. He would never return to the person who abandoned him. Instead, a new family stepped forward. The final scene shows him climbing happily into a car beside his new humans, leaving the pit behind for a life built on kindness rather than cruelty.
