He Carried a Tumor for Years — Until Freedom Finally Came

Some cases stay with you forever.

Exalux was one of them.

He had been living chained outside with a tumor so large it had changed the shape of his body. The growth had become part of his daily burden — pulling him to one side, making it difficult for him to walk properly.

Neighbors had noticed. Passersby had reported it. But nothing changed.

Not until his story began spreading online.

That was when we stepped in.

Found Chained in a Garden

When we arrived at his owner’s garden, the sight was overwhelming.

Exalux stood there with a long, heavy chain attached to his collar. The tumor was enormous — far beyond what any animal should have to endure. His body leaned sideways from the weight of it.

We offered $150 to take him. It was the only way to get him out quickly.

The owner claimed he had “lost the key” to the chain. We tried to open it — it wouldn’t budge. In the end, we had to use bolt cutters to free him.

When the metal finally fell away, it was the first moment of real freedom he had felt in a very long time.

A Gentle Soul Despite Everything

What surprised us most was his temperament.

Despite years of discomfort, he was calm. He still had an appetite. He allowed us to examine him without resistance.

It was clear he had endured more than we could fully understand.

We promised him something simple that day:

“We will fight with you.”

The First Tests and A Difficult Decision

Exalux received his first X-rays shortly after rescue. The tumor was massive, and doctors needed to evaluate whether surgery would be possible.

It would not be simple.

Because of its size and location, the operation would be complicated. He would need time to build strength before going under anesthesia.

For 11 days, he received careful monitoring, nourishing meals, and supportive treatment. Slowly, he regained energy. His appetite improved. His body stabilized enough to proceed.

Then surgery day arrived.

A Risk Worth Taking

We were deeply worried.

A tumor of that size always carries risks — blood loss, complications, recovery challenges. But leaving it was not an option.

The surgery was long and delicate.

And thankfully, it went well.

When Exalux woke up, the burden he had carried for so long was gone.

The Beginning of Recovery

His recovery journey began gently.

He started eating with enthusiasm again. His posture improved without the massive weight pulling him sideways. He rested more comfortably.

There is still healing ahead — stitches, wound care, gradual strengthening.

But for the first time in years, he is not dragging a heavy mass that dictated every step he took.

He is lighter.

Not just physically.

A Fight Fueled by Hope

Exalux’s case reminds us how easily suffering can become “normal” in some places — until someone refuses to accept it.

He carried that tumor for far too long.

Now he carries something different:

Hope.

We continue to provide extensive care to ensure his recovery stays on track. Every good meal, every quiet nap, every short walk without that weight is a victory.

Exalux has already shown us how strong he is.

Now it’s our turn to stand strong for him.

And we will. 🐾
