A Disturbing Sight in a Pile of Debris
Among broken bricks and scattered scrap metal, a stray dog wandered slowly through a dusty junkyard.
At first glance, something about his appearance felt deeply unsettling. His head looked unusually swollen, far larger than it should have been, and the dog held his neck stiffly as if every movement caused pain.
The closer rescuers looked, the more alarming the situation became.
Around the dog’s neck was a rigid plastic pipe — the kind normally used for drainage. Somehow it had become tightly lodged around his neck, forming a cruel ring that had remained there far too long.
The pipe had pressed into the skin until it began cutting into the flesh beneath.

For the dog, every day with that object trapped around his neck had been a slow and painful struggle.
A Dangerous Object Hidden in Plain Sight
When the rescue team from Saahas For Animals brought the dog to their center, the full severity of the injury became clear.
The plastic pipe had tightened so severely that the surrounding tissue had become deeply wounded and infected. Because blood circulation was restricted, fluid had built up in the dog’s head, causing it to swell dramatically.
His body was weak from hunger and exhaustion.
And yet he remained surprisingly calm, as if he understood that the people around him were trying to help.

The dog was placed gently on an examination table while the medical team worked quickly to stabilize him.
First came emergency fluids to address dehydration and exhaustion. Medication was applied to the damaged skin surrounding the pipe in an attempt to soothe the painful infection.
But the object itself still had to be removed.
The pipe was thick and rigid — too strong to simply pull apart. Removing it safely would require precise work and specialized tools.
A Careful and Delicate Operation
To free the dog, the rescue team brought out a handheld cutting tool designed for situations exactly like this.
One rescuer carefully operated the cutting device, slowly slicing through the hardened plastic. Meanwhile, other team members gently held the dog steady and shielded his sensitive skin to prevent any accidental injury from sparks or the cutting blade.
Every movement had to be controlled.
Every second required concentration.
Finally, after careful cutting along the pipe’s edge, the plastic ring began to loosen.

Piece by piece, the object that had trapped the dog for so long was removed.
The Beginning of Healing
Though the dog was still weak and in pain, the moment the pipe was freed marked the beginning of his recovery.
The swollen tissue and deep wounds would require ongoing treatment and time to heal, but the greatest danger had finally been removed.
For the first time in a long while, blood could flow normally again.
The rescue team continued cleaning and treating the injured skin while ensuring the dog remained comfortable and calm.
A Life That Nearly Slipped Away
No one could say for certain how the pipe ended up around the dog’s neck.
It may have been an accident — or it may have been something far more troubling.

But one thing was certain: without timely intervention, the dog would not have survived much longer.
Now, under careful medical supervision, he has a real chance to heal.
A chance to live without pain.
And a chance to leave behind the dangerous piece of plastic that once threatened his life. 🐾
