A Heartbreaking Discovery in the Frozen Field
On January 11, a post appeared on the Russian social network VK that immediately caught the attention of animal rescuers.
The message described a dog abandoned in a field.
But the reality was even more devastating than the words suggested.

When rescuers arrived, they found a dog chained to a metal stake in the middle of a snow-covered field, exposed to freezing temperatures of –10°C.
The dog had collapsed onto the snow.
His body was nothing but skin stretched over bones, weakened by severe malnutrition and dehydration. It looked as though he had been starving for a very long time before being left there to face the brutal winter alone.
Without immediate help, he would not survive.
A Race Against the Cold
The rescue team acted quickly.
They gently wrapped the fragile dog in warm blankets and rushed him into their vehicle to get him to a veterinary clinic as fast as possible.
Every minute mattered.
The freezing temperatures had already taken a serious toll on his body.

At the veterinary clinic, the doctors quickly realized just how critical the situation was.
The dog’s body temperature had dropped to 32.9°C, far below the normal canine temperature of around 38°C.
This dangerous condition, known as hypothermia, can quickly become fatal.
Another detail revealed how long the dog had been neglected.
His nails were extremely overgrown, a clear sign that he had gone without proper care for a very long time.
The veterinary team immediately placed him in a heated recovery room and began administering intravenous fluids to stabilize his body.
At first, the dog trembled violently.
He was too weak to lift his head.
For a moment, everyone feared he might not make it.
Small Signs of Hope
But the rescuers and medical staff refused to give up.
They stayed beside him, warming his body, cleaning his fur, and speaking to him gently as he rested.
Slowly, the fragile dog began responding.

A few days later, the rescuers gave him a name.
Pitalk.
Video: The Moment Pitalk Began to Fight Back
On the third day, Pitalk managed something remarkable.
He tried to stand.
Though his legs were still weak and unsteady, it was the first clear sign that his body was beginning to recover.
However, the long exposure to freezing weather had left him with respiratory problems, and he developed a severe runny nose as his lungs struggled to recover from the cold.
Still, the improvement continued.
By day 11 and day 12, Pitalk’s body temperature had stabilized.
Even more touching was the change in his eyes.
The fear and exhaustion that once filled them began to soften, replaced by a quiet trust in the humans caring for him.
A New Beginning
Eventually, Pitalk’s health indicators improved enough for him to leave the clinic.

In the final moments of the video, he is seen wrapped warmly in a blanket as veterinary staff gently carry him out.
The dog who once lay frozen in a field was now leaving the clinic alive, ready to begin a new chapter of his life in a foster home—or perhaps one day, a permanent family.
A Story of Survival and Compassion
Pitalk’s story is a powerful reminder of two things.
First, animals possess an incredible will to survive—even in the harshest conditions.
Second, the compassion of people who refuse to look away can change everything.
What began as a desperate scene in a frozen field ended with a fragile life returning to hope.
And because someone chose to care, Pitalk was given the chance to live again. 🐾
